Hackers claimed to have gained access to the source code of Cyberpunk 2077, The Witcher 3 and its unreleased version for PS5 and Xbox Series S|X, as well as Gwent. In addition, they allegedly stole the company’s documentation.
The attackers threatened to publish codes and documents “if they did not reach an agreement.” The studio was given 48 hours to contact the hackers.
CD Projekt RED stated that they were not going to fulfill the demands of extortionists and appealed to law enforcement. The developer claims that the compromised systems did not contain personal data of users.
In turn, the attackers have already started selling the stolen data.
Later, the seller said that “an offer was received outside the framework of the forum, which satisfied us.”
According to Emisoft researcher Fabian Wosar, the hacker group HelloKitty may be behind the attack.
Recall that last year, attackers spread a cryptographic virus through a fake beta version of the Cyberpunk 2077 game for Android.
